I don't know if i'm doing it right, i am following the manual, but when i press cancel + remain, nothing happens. All i get is "---" on the screen.
Or do i need to turn the machine on with buttons pressed?

Does the Ultra (4 gig, 15 mb/s) not work on the SX? I need Ultra II? in that case, i hope the store will take it back :/

Do a "quick format" on your PC and then see if the SX can read it. When I do this on the classic 404 it makes me re-format the card in the machine before I can use it.

I think the limit is 1 gb. I think that's your problem.

Should have read that more thoroughly. Man...32 gb, what is that? A week of sample time?

hmm, i've tried formatting it, but no change... formatted it on a mac though, as FAT32 (which it was already).
i thought it did do something when i pressed remain, the pad bank buttons lit up, the ext source pad blinked and it showed 0.00 on the screen. But then that just means it sees no space on the card, the remaining time is 0.

Nothing happens when i press cancel though, and that's what the manual says:
- hold cancel
- press remain (and keep pressing it?)
- pad bank buttons start to blink, press one and press DEL

This is the first time i try to format a card, so i wasn't sure what else i can try.
I guess i'll bring the whole thing to the store and see if they will take back this card and let me try others till i find one that works.

thanks for you feedback :)

That's what you're supposed to see on a brand new formatted card (---). I just brought home a new SX, and I get the same thing after formatting a new card. Now all you have to do is add some samples!

By the way, I'm using an 8gb Micro SD card inside a regular SD adaptor - seems to be working great. Sadly, I only have 750 minutes of sampling time left! Mwu ha ha ha hah aaa...lol

Anyway - I'm new to the SX. Gonna be a blast...

now only if it would record... :( i'm taking mine back to the store, can't get it to work any way. I formatted it on both pc and mac, but it won't format on the SP itself.

Assuming you have the external button engaged, and you can hear your source - what happens when you try to record?

When I first tried the onboard mic, I didn't notice that the gain button on the front by the SD slot was all the way down.

no... the record button doesn't light up when pressed. I can put ext source on, and get sound, put fx on it, whatever, but no recording...

just thought i might try copying the card contents from the original roland card to it... and renaming it... see if that does anything. (edit: nope)

anyway... nobody ever used non type-II cards on their SX?

ok update... turns out the card i had was in fact Ultra type II, but they only put ultra on the packaging...

I exchanged it for a Sandisk Extreme 20 mb/s 4 gigabyte, and this one works.

moral of the story, bring your SP to the store and see if the card works there, save yourself the hassle.

Good to hear. 4? Go for 8!!! lol...

It's weird to see sooo much available sampling time...compared to my 808 on zip disks...250MB per disk.

I was expecting the micro card to FAIL like a dog...but so far it's holding up.
