hi,

i'm thinking of getting the Sp-404 Sx for playing samples. But before i make a purchase, i would like to know if there's any limit in the duration of the soundfile in sample playback?

I've got a kaoss pad 3 and it was a pity to note that the duration is about 6 sec or so. well it's just an estimate. But it's short. I would like to playback 1 to 2 mins samples.

how about the loading time for samples? how long does it take? on the kp3 it takes about 48 secs to load a program.

any comments?

best

there's no limit to length..

you dont really 'load' samples.. well you do to put them onto the pads, but once theyre there the access is instant and stays that way..

so you just set it up before your show or whatever,
then get there.. turn it on.. all the samples on the pads are already there ready to go cos they read directly off the card rather than loading into RAM

so as long as you can deal with only have 120 samples or however many it is, you dont need to worry about load times

You should understand that the SP is different to the KP3.. the KP3 will keep loops in time automatically to the BPM set, but the SP will not.. as long as you dont need to have variable BPM while you use loops its not a problem.

Also understand that the SP is not a live looper.. you can't record a loop live and have it begin playing straight away in time like the KP3.

(People sometimes dont understand this and then are angry at the machine for not doing what they want)

does the samples still playback in record mode? and how about while setting loop in and out points?

this could really determine a purchase. the idea about not having to load samples is a plus. not being able to playback samples straight away isn't really the top of my list. if the editing function disrupts the playback... then that could deter me.
