Mmmhh...and if i want to change pattern with ableton live via midi automation?
Can i do it?

I have another question, maybe ot.
What is the best way to organize i/o of my instruments:
- pc without midi i/o;
- controller midi with Midi i/o and wired to pc via usb;
- sp-404 only with midi in.

Thanks thanks thanks in advance.

You cannot select patterns in the 404 over midi. It only lets you start/stop the current pattern and sync the tempo to midi clock.

You can trigger all of the samples with midi notes over midi so if you can make midi loops in Live you can do all the sequencing there and the 404 is just a sample player for it.

If you need a midi controller, then the MIDI output port in that will be suitable to drive the 404 midi input - there is no need to get a separate midi port or soundcard with midi.

the closest thing to it involves using something external to resample the output of the sequencer and then using the sequencer to trigger these loops/sections at the appropriate time.

here's how you should use your stuff..

controller USB->computer
controller midi out (if it has one! ..otherwise you need something else with a midi output)->404

then in the computer you have to setup a midi track in your software that takes the keyboard input and sends it to the keyboard's midi out port (which goes to the 404)

This way you can record what you do with the keyboard in your software, so that it can play back pattern changes/etc later
