how do you get silence in the front of your sample for the swing method

record it with silence or use audio software to insert silence at the start of the sample.

On the SP you could make a pad with 0 volume - go to resample, then hit the 0 volume pad, then the other pad with the actual sample.

Take in mind that the silence will need to very short (less than a second). Then, after you sequence (with quantize), adjust the start point of the sample.

yeah, the second part of what cartesia said, just resample and hit anything, wait a second or two so there is some silence, then play the pad you want, usually i just do the same drum hit twice, then mark it right up to the second one

The way a sequencer or drum machine creates swing is to make the even numbered beats play a little early. So with the "air" method it's the odd numbered beats that will have to be late - which will make the even ones sound early if you know what I mean. Depends on the rhythm but it might only be the kick and snare that you need to add silence to.
