are u planning on looping that one sample????
-you dont neccesarily have to set the bpm to wat is says the bpm of the sample is. just figure out wat bpm fits and then do it. . .i actually had trouble with this first too. . .i usually play the sample, nod my head to it and guess when setting up the pattern if it isnt perfect u can change it even if u did already record some

Before being pissed off ;) , you should probably explain to us what you're trying to do here. A single sample doesn't determine the BPM you are going to or should use in a Pattern, as that's entirely up to you.

You can even slow samples down to match the bpm of your choice. Obviously this has limits similar to turntable pitching when it comes to it's usability, but the sequencer of the SP-404 is really quite good actually.

I would encourage you to look in the manual and go through the steps of setting up a useful pattern length (like 4 bars or 8 bars), adjust the BPM to something you feel comfortable at playing and go from there. :)

When it comes to looping a sample, it's essential it has been chopped properly and the loop will have to match a certain amount of bars more or less exactly if you want it to loop within a pattern. Perhaps you need to adjust the sample's start/end points.

Yoo PHeMoX I took your advice and resampled the pattern. I got it to be about 4 measures instead of 2, not sure how this made a difference but I got the beat to sync up pretty good first try. I'm gonna keep cracking at it til I get it perfect lol.

I think you might be trying to either a.) match two samples with a too radical difference or b.) you're trying to tweak two samples where you should really tweak only one.

In this case you want the drums probably to be at their original bpm, right? Then you will need to tweak the sample and not the drum loop sample.

But still, it might very well be too much of a difference here. As a general rule of thumb, anything stretching further than about 15-25% of the original bpm will easily result in a unusable sample or simply won't be possible to match.

why are you recording the drums at a different tempo??
-keep it at 130 and chop up a break, set quantize and record that shit. . .

are you using quantize? i know when my drums dont sink i throw on no quantize so i can do it exactly how i like it. and what else i do if the sample has any sort of drums...like even a small rimshot i make sure its on the two and four counts of the bar in the pattern. another thing to do. for the drums adjust the start point you may be able to get some extra space or cut the space off of the snare or the drum loop. dont know if this helps just something i found out. and yeah the sequencer is a bit touchy but after a while youll tune it out and enjoy it.
