Get hits, kicks, claps, rimshots, shakers, bells, hats etc from just about anywhere you can.. I tend to sample new and old drum machines, clean open kits from old vinyl (jazz and rock records are my faves) and a real kit. No mp3s!..then combine say two or three hits together to make one, same with kicks as well.. I would then clean, crunch up and do whatever processesing I can in the s.p to make the samples sound as bad ass as possible. Stereo effects on kit samples sound extra dope.. oh and always leave a tiny 'air gap' before all your kit samples so that way you can mess around with the swing of your grooves a lot more. Good luck..

I just bought some drum kits from http://www.smartloops.com/ that I'm really happy with. Really good quality.
