being new to the 404, i was wondering if it's possible to hear back a pattern while recording something to a pad?
or is this something that's only possible on higher models?

welcome to the forums mans.

the only workaround to this is what we call the "visual metronome" around these parts.

basically, if you hit record, select yr pad, and then hit the bpm button, you can set yr bpm, and the blue light will flash in time. this will allow you to at least "see" what your time count is supposed to be, and record at the same time.
