hey guys
new here.

my problem is that i record a sample and then i use the mark button to clean up the beginning and the end.
and everything sounds fine in the beginning but when i go to mark the end there is almost always a nasty little click noise exactly where i hit the mark button.

i know u can use the start/end/level button to make more detailed changes to
the sample but that doesnt always work.
im just looking for some tips to rid myself of the nasty click.
any help would be greatly appreciated.
thanks.

i dont think thats supposed to happen. Are you sure its not part of the sound? for example vinyl clicks or distortion from peaking

no its definitely not part of the sound.
i didnt mean to make it sound like its incredibly loud or anything
but it is there
its noticeable
and its annoying.

i bought my 404 used over ebay.
i hope there isnt something wrong with it.
but its been there since the day i got it.

It's because were you marked the sample to loop doesn't transition well. A wave form has peaks and valleys if you look at it visually, if the beginning of the sample is chopped on a peak and the end is chopped on a valley you get a click or small annoying pop. To loop something smooth both the beginning and end points have to be chopped on the valleys of the wave form. I hope that helps you understand your machine is fine and it can be frustrating to get a smooth loop, but you'll have more success with practice. You can also get a card reader and use a program to edit wave forms visually.

There's nothing wrong with your unit, this is what Euclid meant:

If you'd catch the highlighted part and looped it, the wave would skip from a very low point (end) to a very high point (beginning) and that results in that click noise you hear. This image is ultra zoomed in as you might notice on the time scale, you couldn't really see the effect otherwise.

Just try to vary the beginning or end of your loop a small amount.

Thanks for the visual blindfold, that's exactly what I meant.

One way to tail it off is use mostblunted's subsonic fadeout trick -

resample to another pad - use subsonic effect -

knobs 1 and 2 - all the way to right (or is it left? - I do it instinctively and cant remember)

you want knob 3 all way down - no effect

press yr pad to play the sample - as it reaches the end turn knob 3 up and it acts as a fader on the sample and creates a tail. it's one of the magic tips on the box.
