The 404 could definitely do that...In fact, I'd say it'd easily make sounds like that with its effects. You should look into getting something else to record into, though, whether it be hardware or software

Yeah, you could make a beat like that with a sp-404's step sequencer and some sample playing. Dope beat by the way.

i have a 404 and a korg er1

in MY opinion i think beats of that style would be easier to make on an esx1 or an er1 by korg... if you wanna stay roland then an mc 505 or an mc 808.. the way you arrange beats on those machines is more like what you posted.. at least to ME anyway... from what i have expirenced it would be alot more work setting up beats of that example on a 404 than one that i listed above..

two cents here;

1. you can sample ANYTHING. even silence. ok, ok, maybe not Palin and her husdand moaning at night unless you're on some super stealth ninja level.

2. the mc's and korg electribe series may indeed be easier to use as tft mentioned BUT you can do the same thing and more with the 404, as you suggested, it might take a little while longer to master. only thing is that there is no song mode on the 404 (there is on the 505,606 and 808) but it really is a non-issue especially with the 404; as the patterns line up one after the other OR i should say one pattern will start at the moment the precedin pattern commences (as a default but this can be changed, if you want).

i sample from movies all the time(audio only of course, but edirol makes a 404 type box for video if that's what you want).

i think the 404 will work good for you.

the fx would be good for hard core . you might want to grab an electribe too tho , so you have unlimited drums and electro sounds.

well...ya know in my honest opinion....i reckon theres probly a few other choices u could consider over the 404 for the hardcore style u posted. dont get me wrong..the 404 is a fukn great piece of gear to have in your armory. but i dont think its quite cut out for that genre as much as other options may be; particularly as already suggested esx1 or er1, electribe, even softaware options (some may shoot me for suggesting! ) ableton, propellerheads reason, or cubase. they are generally made for electronic genres primarially imo. easier with software because of its vst possabilites, range of sequencers depending on what program used....i make electro too (house generally), and Ableton 7 shits on the 404 in that area! lol.
honestly...thats how i see it//

bill.

you're going to plug yr dvd/vid/tv straight into the 404?

1) you can record one part of the soundtrack on one pad and then the other part on another pad.

you could then sequence them into patterns - re-effect them - play them out to a recorder (like tape recorder, digit,al computer, and back IN to the 404

OR you could simply RESAMPLE both samples to another single pad.

I like to record a whole movie on a mindisc then carry that around and "live" with it for awhile - cut out the junk - slice up into smaller tracks, re-order them then pump that thru the 404.

once you get a 404 you will see what I mean.

check out beatjitzus albums here - he probably sampled more movies than most 404ers and it's magic what he has done.

best of luck
