I've searched high and low.

Is there a way to access more banks than the standard 10 banks (A-J)?

Some little hack or trick I'm missing?
A custom firmware? (Please someone)

Faster blinking light to indicate bank A3 etc?

Lots of memory goes unused on my SD cards and I'd love to be able to fit more one-shots and samples. (Without having to go through the cumbersome and time consuming backup/ function)

in a way yes.... but you need preparation. format your card. put those breaks in there and chop them up
now you got your A/B banks totaly clean too btw.
you get them chops that fit nicely together and fill up the 24 pads in A/B once. then you save up the internal memory in pad 1.
then you delete all 24 pads.
and then again you go pick up more samples that fit together, pass them in the A/B banks and you save up again in pad 2 now....
you repeat that job untill you got no more space, or you get bored of that and wanna make a beat.
thats the only way i know to do that
but you can also make a sample chains. in just one pad you resample several samples. now you delete all of them. and have one pad with many samples
you just mark start and end points and you have another sample in place.
thats the other way of extending the limits

Hey dude, thanks for your detailed response. Number one is good, and I often use your second method, which is also great, but then you lose your first sample and have to go back and find it (or offer forget what you were working on). Maybe method 1 is the best. Currently I think dozens of SD cards is just the best option, so I'm always buying.

I really wish they'd do a tiny software update that you could just access additional banks (like bank A3, A4 etc).

....off to eBay to buy more SD cards

nah... that aint happening. the sp404 series is all the same. they even remade the sx into A. and the sx was almost identical to the og anyway. there is no way they update anythng.
ofc buying sd cards is the best thing, having like 3 beat projects in each and just changing cards, makes organizing easier too. i had 5 chinese 128mb cf cards, and 3 1gb good brand cards and 2 of them were not working with the 404. bummer.
anyway both tricks are quite good even if u have several cards. you get to have kits preloaded in each card forever if u want, you name the cards and thats it. you just sample songs and make beats str8 away. also after you do the grunt work of passing the kits and deleting all samples from banks C to J you can copy the contents on the pc, and have that as a preset, pasting in after formating the card.

cheers

shiiieeett!

sd cards is the shit. cf cards for the og is a pain in the ass. just some days ago another 1gig card broke down. like i put it on and it makes terrible noises and sometimes plays a ton of samples all intertwined from just one pad. shit is weird as fuck. maybe i should record that shit
