Is it possible to pan samples left and right within the SP404 to allow simple mixing?

I see there's a pan effect but this just ping pongs the sample back and forth at different speeds right? Can you just simply select a mono sample and pan it hard right like you can adjust it's individual volume level?

YDR.

unfortunately no, u cant. The only real alternative is using the pan effect and resampling the sound u want when the effect lands it in the right spot.

you cant really do it on the machine, but if you had them panned from a recording program before you put them on sp it would work , right?

Right.
Although I should say "correct", since there is no Right or Left!

You have to pan them in something else and import or sample in stereo.

I don't think there's anyway to add pan to a mono sample in the 404 other than the already mentioned resample from panner FX trick, except maybe an o/s update.
