Hey all:

this is the 2nd time I've bought some new cards, and had them fail on me. The first 2 cards I bought (SanDisk Ultra II, 1G) work fine... and still do... sound great.

But I just bought 2 Kingston 1Gs from Amazon, and they mess up---big time. Clicks and pops at first... followed by freeze-ups, sample-clips, and then total data loss!

Has this happened to anyone else? Is it my 404... does it only like the SanDisks? I've heard that other people use different brands and they work just fine...

ANY advice/comments would be appreciated,

thanks

No problems with Kingston CF here. I use them in a few things including the 404.
But, there are different versions - the fastest ones available now might be a problem, since the 404 was probably designed before they existed.
Kingston Elite Pro 50x are the fastest I have.

PNY's cards work fine. Maybe the problem is that Kingston cards are just plain not compatible with the SP-404.

thanks for the comments. This happened to me once before with a cheap brand of card called "Dane-Electric," so I thought it was just the cards... but now with the Kingstons too... I guess I'll try another SanDisk and pray that it's not the 404.
