Hi-

I've posted earlier in regards my inability to get sounds moved from my Mac onto a memory card and into the 404. I thought I'd try a different Subject and try to hook someone who actually uses the 404 with protools.

the short of it is that I can get the sounds onto the card but the 404 never recognizes the samples. Basically i'm moving (trying) short drum samples. Before you ask: i've done all the correct moves in protools: 16-bit, 44 sample rate, etc. i've tried stereo interleaved, mono, AIFF files. I'm using SansDisc CF cards and what else... I've had some good and thoughtful suggestions but I can't get it hooked up.

i'd 'preciate some more ideas if anyone has them. I really can't believe it's impossible to do but so far it appears that digidsign is encoding some kind information into the tracks that the 404 does not recognize.

well, i think i got it. thanks for your reply Jim but the link you sent was about alignment which is a different issue then what i needed.

what i DID come up with which seems to work is be working with Audacity (which is a cool freeware download kinda like garageband etc. I got the latest download BTW.). here's what I did:

(A tip: i'm importing small- 4 beat drum loops- it was recommended that I insert very small fades at either end which I did. This resulted in seamless loops once i got it into the 4040!).

-bounced to disc from Protools and saved to desktop. (when naming files i always start with the letter 'a' which insures that the loop moves to the top of the line inside the flash card cue).
before bouncing be sure to set the files to:
BWF (WAV)
Format: mulitple mono (is what i used anyway although i think the others work too)
REsolution: 16
sample rate: 44.1
convert after bounce.
BOUNCE
2 files lands on your desktop land on your desktop lablel "anyname.L, anyname.R.

(I did 5 different songs/files in the manner)

i inserted my card reader with the memory flash card which creates an icon on the desktop.

-I opened Audacity, created a new file/song and click "import" (NOT 'import raw data BTW- it's one of the options but not what you want!) one song (both left and right files!) from the desktop into Audacity. You'll see the wave forms open in stereo.
- next you select export the song and a window will open asking to "save as" and be sure to drop the ".L" and ".R" from the end of the digi designed desktop named files. Audacity will add it's own .WAV ending to the song name when it's exported.

voila! if you open the memory card icon you'll see your song files there. I did this with the 5 songs and then easily moved them into the 404.

I bet I got more than 20 hours to get to this thing. seems like a lot of work for something that could be posted on their site somewhere. I've said it before and maybe I'm just the dunce but I can't believe that i'm the only one having these problems. those mo-fo's should hire me to help write their damn operations manuals because whoever they paid to do it ripped them off bigtime and sure made a lot of work for all of us! Hey, on the other hand, what do you want for $400 right?

thanks all for your tips and suggestions.

peace
