Trying to slave the 404s sequence to an external clock generated by the akai miniak. Basically I just want the tempo of my 404 sequence to always match the tempo of the miniak. I got it going before so I know its possible but now I cant recreate it.

I have the 404 set to midi sync "tempo", and the miniak to generate clock.
Both are on channel 1. Midi out from miniak to midi in 404.

Not sure what else I could be doing wrong?

Manual starts p41 about this. I would try chan 16 just in case the other messages the miniak are sending are crowding chan 1 (unlikely, all the same pipe). Chan 16 is used for nothing on the SP.

This thread might help you as well-

Well, if you use a CF card, the 404 uses 2 midi channels. So if you use midi channel 15, channel 16 is used for the lower part of the samples (banks G - J).
That's why you can't assign midi channel 16.
