They are better than the 505 for sure. If you have a slower card, things get weird. For some reason a card konked on me and started sampling slower, like a little pause after sampling. But once I changed the card it went back to normal. But the 404 doesn't process anything like waveform views and things like that so its faster in that regard. Instant sampling and fun.

The slowness of the 505 is why i ditched it, despite the nice chopping and vinyl comp.
The 404sx is blazingly fast to me - chopping/loading/sampling, its about as fast as you can expect from hardware, makes getting creative quicker.

The 404sx is also significantly faster than the 555 and 404

What you lose in extra time processing, you lose in features concerning 505/404.

It's a tradeoff, one everyone has to choose when deciding what gear to use.

Some other tradeoffs I've run into: Great features with a shitty interface, great sound without much ability to manipulate, great sequencer without any real memory or good sound, etc. etc.

Shit happens like this. It makes the journey more meaningful deciding what you really want out of your gear.

the reason I mostly miss the 404 is for how fast and awesome EVERYTHING
is. You can wipe a bank fast, import a bank fast, export your bang fast.
I don't understand how people can't. But looking back, I hated the 303
sequencer, as it was my first sampler. Then after a long time around
when I lost the 303, is when I started to get really wicked rythems on it.
The 404 sequencer doesnt snap as hard and the 16's got a different groove
to them. The 606's 16's are so off base that you can't start with them
pretty much ever. The 303 16s are solid and you can run your whole session on 16 Q.

The 303 is slower than 404 for all the basic things. But you trade in that
time for the better conversions.

I don't know the SX. but I still have a feeling the sound might be a little
cheaper than the og. and The og is a cheap 303 sound, if you stay a bit
cooler you can get the coverters sounding 303ish on the og.

As someone with a 303, 404, and 404sx, I can agree with the above statements.

The 404SX is significantly faster in terms of processing and memory related functions (saving, deleting, etc.). The copy and exchange functions are awesome. I use them constantly when chopping and such.

The 404 OG is definitely slower at deleting and processing than the SX, but faster than the 303. However, I find the sound engine of the OG to be superior to the SX. The reason I say this is that the 404 allows you to push sounds louder and effect them in a bigger sense. For example, the OG compressor versus the SX compressor - the difference is apparent. It also allows you to record these effected sounds without much degredation. On the SX, however, if I want to resample a kick with the bass EQed WAY up, it will sound great when playing through the FX engine, but when resampled, it won't sound nearly as good.

Just some thoughts I have since I use the two in conjunction constantly.
