hey, so i use the 404 almost everytime i dj and i think that something maybe is wrong with the audio ins or outs on my 404 or maybe i have it at the wrong part in the chain... but heres my setups....
turntable 1>404>mixer that usually sounds fine, but do i then hook from the 404 to the line input instead of phono on the mixer?

turntables>serato>mixer>404>pa at the bar - this sounded horrible last time i did it... it sounds ok with out serato in the mix.. but im curious if the 404 has like sound limits as far as what you can all run through it? it could very well also be the pa at the bar but im wondering if anyone has any previous experiance on putting the 404 in the right place sound-wise in the audio chain or if anyone ever heard of the audio ins/outs on the 404 going bad.

i basically get a wicked peak on the 404 with my whole dj setup running through it and ive tried turning the master on the mixer down and the sp volume up but then it throws off all the volumes of my samples in relation to the music.

any help!?!?!?!??!

hi -

if you're going from

turntables>serato>mixer>404>pa

or anything where the 404 is the last thing to pa i woudl have thought you are going to have to "prep" your line input volume - same as when you sample from line-in(?)

I have to do it all the time with my cassette deck when sampling from it as is too powerful straight to 404.

and then never touch the volume of the mixer again - or make a texta mark to your upper limit that your mixer ctrls never broach...

It may not be your line - in or outs - going bad but that the signal is too much for the 404 as you are making it the 404 another final mixer(?)

sorry if i read you wrong.

best of luck.

I forgot - by "prep" i mean - adjust the input volume of the 404 (you didn't mention you were doing that - you mentioned only adjusting the volume of the mixer alone)

hit your ext source pad - for your line in to start playing

hit start/end button

adjust the 3 ctrl so that your mixer's highest volume doesnt peak the 404 - then it should be set to the highest you want it to suck in

turn off the start/ed bttn.
