i just searched for one there and they aren't that expensive at all.

they cost around 20 dollars?? thats right isnt it??

now how exactly do you use them??

lets say i load 36 individual samples onto the card and then put it into my 404 will those samples appear on banks c through e or are they placed randomly on the card??

any info would be helpful.

my cf card reader was 6 bucks.

Basically you just drag and drop your samples (WAV) in the root folder of the cf card and jam it in the 404.

Then press cancel+resample and then record. Then press the pad where you want your samples to 'start', for example bank B pad 2. Then press record and the samples will be placed on the pads from pad 2 bank B.

So it's like

bank B pad 2 - sample 1
bank B pad 3 - sample 2
bank B pad 4 - sample 3
...

Oh shit, I should add that you cannot' just import 'certain' samples. You always import all of the samples at once.

I use a card reader but just to back up my stuff. I just copy the whole "ROLAND" folder to my external HD and change the folder name to a beat name and/or date so that way i dont have to mess with tons of cards.

Note that the samples will be loaded alphabetically into your 404. For example, if you want the file kick.wav on Bank A Pad 2 and snare.wav on Bank A Pad 1, then it's actually going to be loaded up the other way around, so you'll have to do some rearranging ([DEL] + [REC] -> select source -> select destination -> [REC]).

Couldn't you just rename your samples alphabetically in the order you want them to appear on the pads?

Or would this not work? I'm only getting mine on friday, so I don't really know.

Just a note, the 404/303 loads the samples in ASCII text format order. This just means that numbers come before letters, so if you want to quickly get the samples to load in the order you want, just place 01 at the start of the first sample's file name. 02 in front of the second, and so on...

Be sure to put 0 then 1. In ASCII, without the zero you'll end up with this order:

1, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 2, 20, 21... 29, 3, 30, 31...etc.

It should go:

01, 02, 03, 04, 05, 06, 07, 08, 09, 10, 11, 12, 13... etc.

Or you could go 001, 002, 003, but I doubt you'll ever have to load a hundred samples. =^)

Oh, I wasn't referring to your post. I think I missed it while writing mine. =^)

I just wanted to clear up the ASCII thing, some people get confused by it or just never figure out why their samples load in funny orders.
