I've really been looking at the new Kaoss pad lately and I'm wondering what type of crazy stuff I could do with it and the 404 together? I know the pad has mostly what the 404 already covers, but I like the idea of being able to move you finger around to make the effects....I dunno, it's just me and me unquenchable thirst for sick electronics. :D

I had a kp3 hooked up to my sp-404,

I sold it. . the KP3 is a great concept & interface but the implementation sucks all the fun out of it.

you can ONLY control the parameters that are assigned to the pad,
so the effects start to get really old really fast. Also alot of the effects are all "show" but they are too big to use within a mix, they're only really useful when applied to the master signal, over everything - as a DJ would use it.

the sampling, while it couldve been cool, is just not as 'usable' as one would like. things like not being able to adjust the volume of multiple samples at the same time - you have to stop all samples except the one you want to modif, then you can edit its volume.

not really worth the cost of it I'd say.

Not sure if this thread is still getting looked at, but I use a kp3 and a 404 and think they work great together. The basic sampler on the kp3, though very limited, samples only by bpm and not by time like the 404. This means that you can grab loops on the fly in a live setting, one of my biggest problems with the 404 (you know, gotta stop, go to sequence mode or trim your sample, not very useful for sampling on the fly). With the kp3, the sampler works like a very basic loop station, and the effects are pretty cool,

you can edit the parameters if you plug in the kp3 to your computer.

Keep in mind though, it is definitely designed for a dj. I use it with a Rane 54 and 2 techs and am in love with my setup. I like the kp3 WAY more than my 404, but I am still just starting to get acquainted with the SP so we will see if that changes.

I have the Kaoss Pad 3 too now, it's great. I use it together with my SP 606 but I really have to buy some better cables and so on soon, so everything works without plugging out and plugging in a bunch of cables.

It's excellent for loops and together with its effects it's a powerful machine. I have to admit though, sóme effects are not useful and its likely that you will never ever use those. The sampler functions it has are good, but almost less than basic and without the looping capability I would not have bought it. I have mainly bought it as effects processor and it's great for that.
