Having pad 'A' de-activate pad 'B'
heya, I remember seeing this some were but I forgot were. I got the impression that you could program a pad to deactivate when the other was pressed.
for example:
say i'm playing a series of chops with one pad (1) that goes for a half bar or whole bar.
I'm wanting to use it as a main melody but want another chop to occasionaly break in but I don't want to:
-have the sample of (1) keep playing, while playing sample (2)
-don't want to use the gate function on sample (1) as my hands are busy enough as is...hehe
was there another way to make this work?

I don't think this is possible. It seems as though you're talking about mute groups. 404 has none.
If you figure out a workaround, let us know, though. Only thing I can think of is to set effect to isolator with all knobs to the left on the main loop then punch in the isolator while smacking the other pad that doesn't have that effect on it. That should be close to what you want without having to hold pad down via gate.

Neat idea, I will have to try that. I find gate mode sufficient for the most part.

hit delete. hit pads. they will cancel each other out. you can't use the sequencer in delete mode though so you'll need to record your performance to another device. do a search for 'mark mystery and delete disaster' its one of the most useful threads on this board.
another ghetto way is to assign each sample pad to its own pattern and just trigger the patterns but there might be a slight delay before each pattern change

This would be the most realistic to MPC style as you would get. Do this and record to outside source. You can hold SUB pad and it will switch to the next pattern instantly.

Re: Having pad 'A' de-activate pad 'B'
the ill part is you can have a resampled drum loop on a pad while you're triggering the pads (patterns) with vinyl sim comp on everything
(and forgot 'mark mystery/delete disaster' is not related to this trick its about quick chopping and deleting hits in patterns)

I see haha! non the less some interesting stuff to play around with. Thanks for the input guys, just going to go check out that other thread.
yeah i'm getting used to using the 'gate' on some pads while keeping stuff like my drums, mini chops and things of the like clear. Seems that your finger skills pick up were the machine comes short in regards to that.

The deleteute groups yo yo crunch mentioned is the best if u have something to sample into. If not the best way to do ghetto mute is have your pads on loop no gate. Then when pad a is done and pad b comes in just hit them both at exact same time. This is how i always do it. Be careful with that mark mute thing to hit cancel when u r done playing pads or u can delete pads by accident pretty easy.

Re: Having pad 'A' de-activate pad 'B'
used to use the loop mode trick too. only downer with that its a bit tougher to trigger the same pad twice manually before its set loop endpoint. the sequence per pad trick feels a little more mpc style
Re: Having pad 'A' de-activate pad 'B'
i've been using the gate mode for that stuff since a while now and it works perfectly. habing evertying on loop for chop is kinda overkill tho. it,s cool for pattern but double hitting all the time especially in "resample" mode is not worth it.
sample your shit mono
make a drum pattern
resample your stuff on gate while the drum play
i mean there other way to do it but this seem to provide pretty reliable microwaves

Re: Having pad 'A' de-activate pad 'B'
yo crunch, making 2 patterns of the same, might help you loop better on delete mode muting.
----------------------------
I wonder if you could fill a bunch of pads with nothing and then when you trigger pad B, push some blank stereo pads in hopesit will max out the polyphony and cut sample A off . Ha maybe I invented that one, we shall call it the 'scally wag' mute.

Hey I'm not sure if you still need help with this or whatever, but here's something I discovered the other day by accident.
This only works if you're making beats using the resample method by the way.
Say you're tapping out your beat with whatever your samples are plus some drums. If you want those samples to cut off the other, just use the limited resample polyphony to your advantage. It seems to me as though the SP will cut off whatever the longest sample that is playing at the time is. So say you've got 3 horn samples and a kick. If they're all in stereo, you'll only be able to play 2 at a time in resample mode, so if your horn samples are longer than your kick, but your kick sample is still playing, the horns will cut each other off. I discovered this using a kick that had a super long decay, but if you have short samples with a lot of empty space after them, it should work too.
Sorry if this is incredibly confusing. If anyone's really interested, I can try to explain better or something.
