hiya folks! another noob with some questions..hehe..

1)how to edit a pattern: after I record a pattern and it's assigned are you able to go back into that pattern and edit it? record and delete stuff?

2)don't know why I can't use the fx while in the pattern sequencer. I've seen others do it like here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tQIKvVJM_Fk

3)how to play patterns simultaneously.

4)(probably related to last question) In this video at the 1:00 mark he doesn't seem to be on the pattern sequencer but he's still recording loops...is that right and how do you do that? lol

video link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-UTVn4dE ... 8e4hR3Rv4A

that's pretty much it, the fx is probably straight forward enough. although i'll probably find my answer easily enough on youtube or something.

Yes simply hit REC and choose an existing pattern. you can delete by pressing DEL while in record and holding any pads you want to erase. I don't think you can shorten patterns but you can make them longer.

2)don't know why I can't use the fx while in the pattern sequencer. I've seen others do it like here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tQIKvVJM_Fk

All the pattern sequencer does is play the pads, assign an effect to one or more pads and when sequence plays those pads they will have the effect.

3)how to play patterns simultaneously.

no way. you would have to rec pattern outside and sample it back in to a pad.

4)(probably related to last question) In this video at the 1:00 mark he doesn't seem to be on the pattern sequencer but he's still recording loops...is that right and how do you do that? lol

- He is using "resample technique" many people prefer it to using the sequencer. you just go into resample mode and play things live on the other pads and everything gets recorded to the new pad. You can do this multiple times to build up sounds, parts, beats, and whole tracks. the sound will slowly degrade over time though if you resample a ton.

that's pretty much it, the fx is probably straight forward enough. although i'll probably find my answer easily enough on youtube or something.

Ohhhh!!! that makes so much sense now! haha!

definitely not as easy as using fl studio, but man is it rewarding! Making beats without a sequencer definitely has it's appeal. Been looking at a Samiyam performance as well and it makes sense how he's doing it.

I can almost picture using a hybrid inbetween the conventional 'live' and 'beatmaking' process using the resampling method. (at least from what I gathered so far)

ex:
live (samiyam): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mul-sgTN6ww
beatmaking (mujo): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-UTVn4dE ... 8e4hR3Rv4A

basically just having loops and constructing/deconstructing while having them all set to hold functions
(layers of beats:kicks/snares/percussions/etc.)
(layers of samples: foundation/accompanying/sprinkles)

and taking the hands on approach (keep reactivating pads+hold to make ensure they stay relatively on time)

then having a master track for the verse (1-8,8-16), chorus (1-4,5-8) and all the transitions in the same fashion for when you want to free your hands up or just focus on the dj effects.

It's seems that I can't designate effects to certain pads without breaking them off from the hold function which would be a shame...otherwise I think I could have a pretty solid system with practise. (timing my pad triggering mainly)

thank you so much for the response though, if your down I've got one more question (would love input on my little tangent above though..hehe)

mainly: If I want to 'hold' 2 or more pads simultaneously is there a way to select a specific pad without having to stop it? It seems the MFX only works with the last pad triggered.

You have og404 or the SX? On the 404SX you use the "remain" button like this:

Press and hold- whatever pad is blinking is the currently active/selected pad. The solid lit pads have the effect assigned to them. If you press a pad while holding remain you can toggle whether it has the effect or not and also make it the currently active pad.

No time to respond to the rest of your post right now will have a look later.

No you can toggle as many pads as you want to have any of the effects, just 1 effect at a time overall can be in use. There are ways to quickly assign the effect to a whole bank etc. you can have 1 effect on as many pads as you want, but again only 1 effect at a time. that's another huge reason people resample pads. i have resampled pads 10 times changing it each time w effects and when you play the pads in sequence you can hear how it changed over time. Neat.

Read the manual from cover to cover or at least when you have a question read everything about that topic in the manual. The manual is decent and I have manuals for 505, 555, and 404SX all right in my studio.
