Hi!
I've had my 404 for a while now, but I got it fairly cheap off ebay so I was half-suspecting it wouldn't hold up too long.

Anyway, it worked fine until yesterday and now it refuses to start up with a CF card inserted. It has the "SP-404" scroll across but freezes dead with the "404" still on-screen. Without the card in it is completely fine and the internal memory is working properly.

I haven't really tried too much yet, I might go and get a CF card adapter for my laptop and do a complete factory reset, but I was wondering if this is something people have heard of before?

Any ideas?

Thanks much!

Card might be corrupted. IF you have card reader on a computer, you might try erasing everything on it, then using 404 to format it. Just a suggestion.

Try different card if you have one first to make sure it's the card that's the issue before doing that.

Thanks for the idea.

I borrowed a 1Gb card from a friend to try it out - same problem. However, both cards work alright in his 404.

Tried formatting my card also, but the 404 still won't start up (frozen on "404") to the point where it formats the card.

I think it may be a problem with the actual card reader in the machine, so it looks like I'll be limited to the internal memory for now!

Do you know if Roland still fix these if you get in touch with them? I might have to try having it repaired.

No idea and yeah, sounds like maybe you bent/broke a pin or something in the card reader..

Whether or not Roland will service your gear is a question for Roland as I have no idea. :)

I had this happen -

I paid for Roland to service - they took payment - took it apart - and then returned it saying I now had a dedicated FX box : )

It wasn't worth the further work - and money - and was better to buy another.

I can still record on banks A and B - but that's it.
