I've had 404 (og) for 2 years now and no matter how many different cards etc i have tried the damn thing hasnt worked properly.

So today decided to try something, took out the mem card while the 404 was on, and so, for the first time i actually could format the card and the damn thing worked. I even could record samples to all banks (except a-b, which it said were full even tho they were empty. strange)

So it was all cool, except when i turn it off and on again it doesn't show the card or doesn't let me format it again. So i have to take the card out and put it in again, and format it. So no use, i still cant save samples. fuck.

I use it with ultra II card if it matters.

Anyone have any similar expriences or any tips what i could try??? Im really pissed because i thought i could finally use it properly but nah.

Edit: my writing is bit confusing but in short: mem card banks not working, except when i put the card in while device is on. memory card doesnt work the next time i put it on again.

That's weird. Have you tried many different brands or just the one? What size card is it? The OG only can read up to 1gig I think.

Try putting the latest os on a formatted card (I would format once in comp & and if that doesn't work then in sp-404). Follow the install instructions precisely, root folder and all! Do not put anything else on card. Use a small card (1 gb is max but go smaller if u have it). Now hot swap is NOT recommended but if that gets it to work, then pull a random card first, then put your OS card in. But even still I think you have to restart if memory serves right. Also, be patient! If it says its busy, go have a coffee or a bowl or whatever. Don't even look at it.
I would say, tbh, a pin is bent or the reader is just fried. If u can't make it work with os reinstall, time for a new reader. Then again, get the sx and use that one for an effects through box.
Good luck!

Thanks for reply.

Tried updating the os with 2 different ultra cards (1gb and 512mb). Nothing happened. Even tried ''hot swapping'' but nope.

BUT, i took good look at the card reader and one pin is bent. I'll try to fix it just have to find torx to get this thing opened...

If I don't get it fixed is there any place to get card reader as replacement part?

edit: YESSSSS I STRAIGHTENED THE PIN AND IT WORKS WOOHOO!!!! big ups jbl!!!!

You know it!
Now for prevention; when you put a card in, use both thumbs, equal pressure, both left and right. The pin is weaker now. Try not to swap out so much.
Also keep an eye for a junked 404 with volume or power source problems, that will be cheaper than sourcing a 'replacement' reader.
