I have an mpc 2500 but Im hearing that this 404 has a phat sound and I;m getting kind of sick of this flat MPC sound! I was thinking of just sequencing the 404 with the 2500 for my drum sounds.....Anyway, I just have a couple of questions.

1. If I wanted to EQ my kick and snare and hats seperately in the 404 would I have to resample them or does it allow you to use 3 eqs at once?

2. Is there any way to layer sounds in the 404 or maybe trigger more than one pad at a time?

3. If I wanted to have my bass from my fantom or vsts ran thru the 404 how would I do this?

4. Is there a way to Multipitch samples so that I can have a different pitch of lets say, a bass note, on each pad?

g'day

1. no, only one EQ at once. but it is easy to apply an effect as you sample the drum, so you can set the EQ for each hit before sampling

2. short of resampling and combining the sounds, there isn't a way to slave one pad to another or anything like that

3. you can route your bass in through the mic input or the RCAs at the back. you can record a bassline then sequence it with the song, or just leave the bass playing through the Ext Source

4. sadly the SPs don't have this feature. there is a pitch effect, but it's a bit of a curio

i really do recommend the 404, but it seems that it does lack some of the features you require. i think there's a fair degree of difference in the workflow of the MPCs and SPs...the 404 takes the typical SP "less is more" approach

hope that helps, feel free to ask any other questions

1. resample is the name of the game.
2. you can control the 404 from the fantom or mpc and it will accept and record velocity. so really anything you can do with the 2500 can be sent via midi to the 404. you can trigger up to 12 pads(mono) at once. however you can NOT set it up to play different sounds from one pad via velocity level (i.e. high kick 0-64, low kick 65-127).
3.sp-404 has an ext. thru option which is nice for adding effects and turning the sound on/off on the fly.
4. you can multipitch BUT it has be done pad by pad and it's not at all like the mpc's. you can also change keys but again pad by pad and it's not the most advanced but it works really well in my opinion.
