I am trying to sample through the 404's MIC IN, but I am having some volume issues.

I'm going: Turntable --> Mixer --> 404 (via MIC IN)

When I turn the 404's MIC IN volume down to 0 I can still hear low end signal from the mixer. Shouldn't all frequencies be cut when I turn the MIC IN volume all the way down?

This is making it hard for me to set a standard/normal recording volume on my mixer and 404'S MIC IN.

If I'm not making any sense, I can explain further.

what i do when recording via mic input is simply push everything until it slightlyclip (like on snare...) then record and then level down if needed.

you know everything is going to be in mono through the mic in right? why aren't you using the rca?
when i sample through the mic in i turn the mic in level knob between 1/4 and half way up and adjust the source signal accordingly. you're always going to hear something even with the knob at zero

If you're sampling from a turntable then use the LINE IN phono sockets on the back.

I'd only use MIC IN if I was recording using a microphone (vocal bits, acoustic instruments, field recording, etc).

The reason that I'm using the MIC IN is because I'm using the 404 as an external effects processor for the MPC 2500. The LINE IN on the 404 is taken and there's no way to sample from my turntable/mixer to the MPC because the RECORD IN 1/4" inputs are already taken on there. The only options left to record in from the turntable/mixer are the MIC IN on the 404 and the DIGITAL IN on the MPC (but my mixer only has RCA outs).

My current setup is:

MPC ---OUTPUTS 7/8 (1/4") to LINE IN (RCA)---> SP-404 ---LINE OUT (RCA) to RECORD IN (1/4")---> MPC ---STEREO OUT (1/4")---> INTERFACE

I'm trying to work this into the picture for recording into the MPC:

TURNTABLE ---> MIXER ---> MPC?

UPDATE:

I ended up finding a workaround.

I bought 2 RCA to Mono 1/4" adapters. I connected the right channels of both the mixer and the 404 to one adapter, plugged that in to the right RECORD IN and did the same with the left channels. Works perfectly.

Thanks!

Reason for recording using MIC IN are, imo,

LOUDER recording from certain sources
Drums (unless you can pan in your drum machine and wanna use that, but i dont regulary pan my drums too much)
Shruthi-1 (or any synth that outputs a mono signal in the first place)
