Hey all, new around these parts. I've read a log about how the sx doesn't have the same compression effect with the vinyl sim and such but am wondering if it's possible to still get that over compressed sound akin to teebs, samiyam, etc. I am almost set on getting the sx but only if this is possible, even if it requires a ton of resampling. I'm mostly comPuter based right now and am looking to add a small, portable sampler to my setup that still allows me computer integration so naturally gravitated towards the 404sx.

I know that this post is all over the place and I apologize if it is confusing at times. Please let me know if you'd like me to clarify anything. Basically, I can achieve the sound I'm looking for in logic but would like the option to do it without my computer but still have all the convenient functions of the sx. Is this asking too much? :)

Thanks,

Dan

I did see that post, but I guess I was asking more specifically if the 404sx is actually capable of doing what the og can do. I've seen plenty of infOrmation detailing their differences but was specifically wondering if there are any workarounds to achieve that over compressed feel and any other effects I may not be aware of

Just sample from vinyl.

Or just roll off some of the high frequencies and then use the normal compressor.

the SX MFX12 compressor effect cannot be applied as subtly as the Vinyl Sim effect on the OG. however both compressors can compress the shit out of audio. i.e you can get an overcompressed sound with the SX. but...
overcompressing with vinyl sim sounds different then overcompressing with MFX12.

with that said i dont know which compressor teebs or samiyam use more often (VS or MFX) but i know they both make beats on the OG404.

also, imo the "ducking" effect is better when done on the OGmfx12

I understand. I'd love to try them side by side to test them out, but unfortunately that probably won't be realistic. I'm sick of buying used gear, so I'll probably try my luck with the SX. If someone could post a demo of LA style beats with the SX that would be amazing. I know it's the user and not the gear, but if the SX is simply not capable of what I'm talking about it's a different story.

Thanks again. Any other insight would be appreciated and helpful.
