e yo folks i'm a brand new sp's user...i want ask you about bass editing in the sp 404.

when you sample a bass one shot note with the sp 404, how do you edit it into the sp 404 for obtain a fat bass sound?

can you explain me about the COMP (12) effect in the sp 404? i don't know how to use it.

you can do mad shit with a sound once its in the SP. there are many ways to get a fat bass sound, just mess with them fx.

it controls the samples peaks in volume. Basically if it sounds worse then the original sample then adjust it or turn it off. Also try the vinyl sim compressor.

Do you post on the necro board?

no, i don't post on Necro board...

can u exlplain me some kind of tricks to edit bass sound in the SP-404? in Acid i put a lo pass filter on the bass but the sound is not very fat and grimey...the SP doesn't have a low pass filter right? i love the sound of the SP...dirrrty :)

If I was you I would just use the vinyl sim for compression. Turn the other 2 knobs all the way down and just use the compressor knob. Adds some real analog sounding fatness. I usually use that and then EQ on my basses.

You can use the "Isolator" as a low pass. It's the top-right effect button next to the display. You can actually see it in the banner pic of the 404 at the top of this page. To low pass, you just turn the high and mid levels all the way down. It works pretty nice, makes it dirty.

I'm not sure what you meant by "fat bass sound" in your original post, maybe you're referring to the sub bass sound present in a lot of hip hop and dance music. You can find that sound on any synth, or it shouldn't be hard to find a place online (or a record) to get it from.
