I just copped the 404 a few days ago, kinda just getting down the basics. I need help with chopping samples... I know you can use the mark function but whenever i chop a sample i cut it down to one small part and then the rest of the sample is completly gone except for the small portion i chopped. Meaning that therefore if i wanted to chop it up into several pieces i would have to keep sampling it and recut it for each time. I know there has got to be another more efficient way. Also you can chop samples on your computer and then load them up right? If so what program do i need to get and such??? thanks

yeah its a little extra work to chop samples on the 404, but you get used to it. I could probably chop a sample faster on a 404 than a MPC now.

It's very fast to resample the original loop to a few different pads and chop them to the sections you want. If you want to chop on your computer you can download audacity for free and then you'll need a compact flash card reader/writer to put the samples on your sp-404.

I have been using computers since I was 3, but that's beside the point. When you've looked at enough wave form then you can see all the kicks, hi-hats and snares like it's the matrix screen or some shit. Everything in the Bitches Brew beat I just posted was chopped it audacity and it only took me like 15mins to make that little loopsky and put it on the net.
