So in one of my pattern banks, I have all 12 pads containing a pattern (each a part of the same "song"). Now the first few patterns, say, pads 1-4, only contain drums and synth. Then the next, 5-8, contain the same drums and synth but also an additional synth/other samples etc. When I play the patterns with the additional synth/other samples some of the original synth samples 'give out' and don't play through like they are supposed to.

Why is this? Is there a limit to samples you can put in a pattern before some samples mute themselves or give out halfway through?

Thanks y'all

absolutely, there is a 12 voice max polyphony, mono samples count as 1, stereo as 2, sometimes just marking your samples can make a difference though, cause maybe you resampled something with some space at the end that is maxing out the polyphony, so cuttin off any blank sound might be the fix you need, worth a shot, but otherwise you might have to resample some things to mono, or layer multiple pads to one pad to free up the polyphony

Thanks a lot bro- that explains everything. I usually mark my samples to eliminate blank space anyway, so I'll try to resample multiple samples onto one pad (though in this case, that will be tricky). Does switching to mono make a big difference in your opinion?

depends on the sounds, you know?? i mean it will clearly free up half the polyphony if you cut 6 stereo samples down to mono, but i think your asking about the sound. I actually used to always do everything in mono, and thought it was fine, but in the last few months i have realized that I am way more syked on the sound when i keep it in stereo, especially on something that is a main sample in the song, and has a sort of stereo presence, you can here it if you can compare stereo and mono back to back, but i also usually sample my breaks down to mono, especially the kick drum, and if i filter bass lines i always convert that to mono, but sometimes you might wanna keep a snare stereo to keep its snap, bouncing it to mono might take away a little from it, its all an experiment though, try some things out and see what works for you

sometimes i find one of the best 'resampling down to one pad' methods is to take anything thats simple back to back chops, even full bar pieces, that would be easy to play free hand, and bounce that down to one pad, cause there is usually some very minimal cross over between 'chops' or whatever, even if you mark it right down, cause you don't want that blank air gap in there, and that overlapping is usually what maxes out the polyphony in my experience

I totally understand the polyphony issue and how mono or stereo makes a difference in the limitations. I also understand truncating so that no dead space overlaps and affects polyphony..... but are you saying that I could take samples from multiple pads and bounce them to just one pad? How do you resample multiple samples down to 1 pad? How is this done?

Yo.

Hit resample, hit record, hit the pad want to bounce to, hit record again, then bang out your tune on the pads. You then have all the samples playing in harmony on one pad...so no polyphony issues. Dope for using multiple effects. It's all in the manual son!

Peace
