so does it come up as .cfm files when I download manuals from Roland only from my computer? I would really like .pdf, and it still won't work if I change the extension, but I can normally download .pdfs from other sites no probs.

.cfm is a cold fusion page. Are you trying to right click and save the posted link? Don't!

Click on it and open in new window and it should open the page with the .pdf link for the manual (well it worked for me!) :)

Are you doing it from this page?
http://www.roland.com/products/en/_supp ... 200&dsp=1#
I've tried right clicking, left clicking, opening it up in new tabs and new windows, all with checking that I agree to their conditions of course, both the .pdf file name and the download button. Nothing works.

I've also tried Roland US and several other national sites in different languages and they don't work either unless you register on some, on others input the serial number and place of purchase, on others again no manuals.

dunno why, but this manual is a 70mb one, so maybe you just need to wait a little so that it could load up

Grab it from here if your still having troubles http://www.believethehyp3.com/misc/SP-404SX_egfsipd01_W.pdf

I am also thinking about getting a 404sx, but I have a couple of questions. Probably easy ones, but using the search function has'nt really helped me, and neither has reading the manual.

1. From what I have looked up, the 404sx does not have the same functionality as an MPC in regards to mute groups. E.g cutting off one pads playback with another. Is this correct? Or have I overlooked something?

2. Can you use the 404sx in a effects loop with a DJ mixer. I have a Rane TTM56, and was hoping I could use the on-board effects "in the mix" not just for triggering samples and the like. E.g applying filters or echo to a track I'm playing on my turntable.

3. I notice in the manual, in regards to importing from the CF card, there is a limit of 120 samples. If I understand this correctly, you can only keep 120 wavs in the IMPORT folder. But outside of this folder you could keep a whole drum library, and audition certain pads on your pc or mac to move to the folder for import to the SP?

The manual has all languages, that's why it's a 70MB file.

1. SPs 202/303/404/404SX/555, none of them have mute groups AFAIK. SP-606 has mute groups, SPD-S has mute groups and panning. But you can use gate playback as a workaround.

2. I guess so and it seems easier to adjust levels on the SX.

3. Backups, you can make 12 backups of 120 samples each, that's a whole lot of samples.

I've got a follow up question about answer number 3 there. Is it possible to restore those back-ups without using a PC? Meaning you can load through all of the 12x120 samples in the box?

It's the same backup process of the regular 404, the main difference here is that with the 404 you can only backup the internal banks (A and B) while with the SX all banks are on the card, so you can backup all banks.

No need to use your computer for that unless you want to "backup your backups".

NO mute groups!!! The horror!

I'm so so SO spoiled working on my pc production rig w/ padkontrol and mpk49. It really may be hard for me to get into the sp. Still think I'm going to try.

But no mute groups!!!!
