for starters, make sure the 'peak' light isn't stuck on red when you're playing, if you have everything maxxed it'll sound like trash (which sometimes is awesome). so maybe just turn stuff down. On the other side of the coin, if the levels are too low you'll get a nasty noise floor. Try to find the best signal-to-noise ratio by adjusting levels on MicroKorg and mic input on 404.

Also, I think you can record stereo-in via rca's in the back (404 has rca in's, right?). MicroKorg does some rad stereo stuff here and there. but that might require a new cord.

Yeah, dunno what else it could be.

yo when you record wack thin software instruments through the mic-in distorted it sounds dope. i did this with a garageband guitar stab and forgot to turn the input down and it sounded really ill. way better then trying to distort it with distortion fx

duh just remembered no speakers on MK. but this reminds me that miking some keyboards is good, as with tablehooters and such sometimes the best way to get interesting shit out of them is put your hand over speaker and get a manual tremolo effect. it can breath life into something as sterile as my Casio mt-35 where (aside from running them through effects) the options are limited.

yeah, just a random thought.

If sound quality is the problem, don't mic-in, use the rca-ins. I wish I had an MK, I used my buddy's on one of my tracks for an arpegiator and another arpegiator on top at 2X the tempo- it sounds rediculous!
