Just wanted to find out: What are you guys using for compression? Results vary, but I've found that for single hits (kiks, sn, hh) 12 works well to get the snap on the attack. With vinyl sim I find that I have to hold effect grab and release it right away to get the same effect. If you record your kick in loud and your music in soft, the pumping effect works great with vinyl sim, but if you record them both in loud and THEN turn the velocity down on one of the pads, it doesn't work too well. using 12 seems to give me slightly more control when I wanted to adjust volumes afterward, but maybe too hard an attack whenthe beat goes from silent to starting suddenly....

thoughts?

I use Vinyl Sim comp for an effect on the overall mix, but mfx12 for individual tweaking for attacks on drums. Vinyl sim is so extreme, it will squash all the dynamics of individual hits. Its better to use it to bring up quiet parts of an overall mix. I dont like MFX12 on an overall mix, because its got harsh attacks.

Yeah vinyl sim sounds great and dirty,

but if you just want a little bit of evening out of the volume of a sample, mfx comp is much more useful/subtle
