I was messing with mfx24 and found a cool way to add some swing to drums. this may be one of those things that everybody is already doing but it's new to me so here goes... this is for the classic 404.

assign a break or resampled pattern drum performance to a pad.
assign djfx looper to the pad and set cntrl knob 1 hard left, knob 2 hard right, knob 3 hard left, so that it just sounds normal.
now turn knob 2 between 3 and 4 o' clock so it slows down a little, and use the left-right-left-right quick turning of knob 1 to catch the kicks and snares as you resample to a new pad.

ideally the knob will be in the left position immediately before each kick and snare (as to catch its quick attack instead of starting halfway through, if that makes sense), held there for a moment, then very sharply turned to the right and quickly back again in time to catch the next one. if held only to the right obviously it makes it sound muddy, but depending on when you force it back to the left position you have control over the timing of the next hit... it's the little imperfections in the process that gives an 'organic' feel with the swing. if you sample your break pitched-up before you chop your indiv. hits, slowing it down with djfx will just slow it down to normal speed.

also, if you tap out your resample performance in a 3/4 time signature you can slow down the djfx even more until the timing of the hats sounds the way it would 4/4, and the swing sounds great that way. you can do this for musical phrases as well, or even the whole master track to pitch it down a lil and add some swing to the overall sound!

oh there is one drawback.... you may destroy the knob if you do this too much

Well sick! Excellent use of an effect that I'd kind of regarded as a garnish, I'm going to have to try this when I get home tonight.

i was trying this on the SX, and when i set the knobs like this, it doesn't 'sound normal' - did they change the working of the mfx 24? :(

I have not tried this yet on my SX, but I think the answer to dishwater's question is that MFX24 on the SX is actually MFX23 on the regular 404...you will need to use the "DJ looper" effect on the face...again, have not tried, but just guessing it will be the same
