Ok whats up this is my first post so if this info is known my bad.
I see people always talking about muting tracks or
This is for the sp 404sx
If you are going to make a song and want a build up you don't want all of your instruments playing. so what you have to do is lay down your beat now copy that pattern to another pad now you have your beat on a separate pad.
now go back to recording of patterns you'll see that your resent beat pads are not blinking saying they can be recorded on but they can just hit one of them and it will start playing with the metronome and the ability to continue recording so now you can add your other sounds. so say you wanted a beat with a flute hi and then you wanted it to switch between that flute and say a piano you can by copying as you build. so yes you will have to watch your pattern a switch it live but still if you want to make your whole song on the sp 404sx before you record it on to a DAW or something you now can. I hope that was helpful and every one understands.

Could you elaborate a little more on this, it sounds interesting.

I don't think he is talking as much about muting parts as much as using the SX' pattern copy. building seperate patterns for intro and just addin in a high hat (copy pattern). Add in the snare so it's high hat snare (pattern copy) high hat snare bass (pattern copy) progress then play the pattern pads live freestyle.

Oh okay, thanks Tim. Thats how I build tracks in the 303 if I use the pattern sequencer, I just with I had at least a regs 404 so I don't have to live trigger the patterns all the time....which is why I mostly overdub on the 303.

the real answer to track muting lies in either the isolator or the subsonic effect and your ability/skill of working that remain button.....also running your sounds out through another SP so you can still have vinyl sim rockin heavy makes this much more feasible, i always do this and then rock either isolator with everything turned down or subsonic for a track mute, the filter for filtering effects (or sometimes the lofi cause that filter is way deeper), mfx24 for ill reverse sounds and the dj loop, and then isolator or EQ for a high pass filter, and just stay rocking that remain and see what you can do

Awesome response Dr Van to be honest I have had my sp 404sx for 3 weeks now its my first instrument and I am just now realizing that its every bit as about skill as any other instrument is which means you can do any thing with these sp's.

that's ^^ a good point. the sp's, more than other samplers, are about the fun of live jamming. you gotta learn to really play the box.
