basically i'm a person that loves the feel of hardware, but because of money issues, messed around on software for so long that i know a lot of it well (yet hate the feel of it)

anyways, i had chopped up some samples in the sp and such, and one by one exported them into audio files on the card so i could arrange/mess around with them on the computer (since i'm so used to the feel and still confused about some basic sp things)

i had applied an isolater effect to all of the pads prior, but when i uploaded the samples on the computer, they didn't have that effect or anything...is this something that happens by default? i was trying to search around on here, but i didn't really know how to phrase it

i'm kinda assuming you need to directly record them into the computer (with some kind of wire) for them to be with the effects you applied?

thanks if anybody knows that i'm talking about

take the pad you wish to change the sound of

Resample it with the effect on

(this is recording the original pad to another pad WITH effect on)

then export the resampled pad to your computer

the sound will have the effect you put on it

- seriously though, what you're doing sounds like a labored and un-intuitive way of messing with samples. best way to get into the SP is to force yourself to do everything on it, it may seem harder to begin with but that is how you get a hang of it. you'll soon realise it isn't hard at all ;)

jump in on a few battles if you're serious about becoming a ninja

damn, i forgot all about resample! good idea...and yeah, you're right, i guess i just get overwhelmed because i'm a perfectionist, so i won't be happy until i know the system in and out

another question though, i figure i'll ask here...if i want to get a pattern on a computer, there's a certain wire i need to get to record it into the computer? what's the exact name of it? seems like there's no way export patterns and such with a card

record the audio from your SP into your computer

get a decent soundcard to ensure good quality recording

the wire will depend on your soundcard, but from the SP you need dual RCA

I don't think there is. I'm kind of a noob myself, but I'm pretty sure you can't export the pattern data itself. You could always just record straight from the line out if you just need the audio though. $5 max at radio shack for the proper cable. Maybe someone who knows more about the midi functionality of the 404 can help you out. There may be a way there to do it but I'm under the impression that all you can do with midi is sync your 404 up to whatever software you're using (midi to usb) or control it with another midi device (i.e. the Axiom 25). So you can either use it as a controller or control it with something else.

PLEASE if any of you veterans know otherwise or want to correct anything I've said, don't hesitate. I'm still learning and could use some knowledge.

There's a whole write up on recording your SP with your computer in the SPI section of the forums here.
