Hello,
I'm new to the board and I have a question to ask.

I've had the 202 for a while now, it's lovely.

But it always saddened me that, when playing samples
in Gate Mode clicking sounds were unavoidable.
Does the 404 have some kind of ADSR functionality to smoothen the
end of a sample?

And can I actually pitch samples individually on it?

Thanks alot in advance,

T

No ADSR at all, but on the 404 you'll only hear clicks if you chop on a peak.

The pitching sux, period.

Okay I've now read it a few times - what is it with the pitching that is so nasty? Does it just sound like ass? I'm really curious.

the pitching has what you'd call "artifacts" - little digital glitches added in, and sound quality degraded, as the pitch increases.

sometimes you can pitch and it totally works fine, like if yr not pitching over a lot of notes. also, some dudes LOVE the sound of artifacted samples. gritty, etc.

either way, i think you'll be very pleased with the dif between the 202 and the 404 (i did the same move).

welcome to the forums!

the 202 is more warm/lofi, the 404 is a little bit pro than 202 sound, (more "plastic" in my opinion, but is just my opinion..)

Thanks for the welcome.

What made the do the step is that, when working with the 202 on the go, it's hard to make any progress within the machine,
normally I'd just trim samples and carve / mold them, which ones work together etc.
At home I could record a session onto tape and use the better parts later on.

I don't mind simple sequencing, as long as it's there.

The 404 hasn't arrived yet, but I started reading the manual.
For a second I was sceptic, thinking they'd replaced the trimming method:
"Set the beginning and end of sample with the two dials"

But the wonderful Mark-Button is still there.
Gosh, I'm looking so forward.
