What exactly do you want to achieve? You can use the 404 to record vocals through the Mic, but if you want to use the 404 as FX processor / sampler / all-in-one, I'd recommend running the line output into an audio interface or input on a laptop. That way you will be able to record basically without limitations.

if the songs are coming from your decks, then you can definitely use the 404 as a hard disk recorder

its true that the 404 can do this, but i feel like it would be real limiting for recording a whole dj set, like you def cant fit an hour on a pad, plus you wouldnt be able to trigger any of your samples during your set while in record mode. i would suggest going one of two routes, either run a line into a computer recording program or anything from a nice digital recorder to a cheap tape recorder that you can dump into the comp afterwards. it also depends on if you are trying to record dj mixes or parts of songs/samples from records... i think but cant confirm that the 1 gb card can record 6 min stereo per pad? (someone confirm) which maybe be ok for mixing a few songs but not a whole set

i dj and use the 404 in the set to play one shots and loop to beat some longer running talking samples... in that context you could use the mic to sample yourself doing some type of shout out and then have it available as a sample for the rest of the set - this set up would entail not running your decks through the 404 but rather hooking the 404 out into either a line input or mic input on your mixer

hope any of that helped!

yeah thats cool, ive seen that box before i think, its only like 100/150 bucks, if you want to do that (record 4 bar loops from your djing) you might want to just get that thing, only because the 404 is not the sickest live looper out there, i think the 505 and 555 though have an auto loop set to whatever bpm
i tried using the 404 in my turntable signal chain before, and it was cool for applying effects, but the looping is slightly unreliable to be done straight up live, unless you had parts of songs looped aheadof time.. that machine hes using in the video each one of those buttons to my knowledge loops a certain amount of beats at whatever bpm is set , to be honest i thought about getting one of those in addition to the 404.. but yeah check out the 555 and 505 on how they have that beat looping function - someone who has one may shed light...
