hey. i was wondering if anyone can help w/ this question:

if i set up a padkontrol or trigger finger with the 404, will this let me easily control the volume of individual pads?

i'm a fan of bringing stuff in and out w/ a volume fader, but it can be a little tricky doin this with just the 404 (make sure fx are off, hit remain, select pad, select volume, adjust volume, unselect it, blah blah).

had a look thru the dif posts about these controllers, but couldn't find an answer. any thots?

fanx guys.

If you set up one of these controllers with SP, you'll be able to use velocity sensitive pads of pK and TF and control the volume of each SP pad with your finger's pressure force. That's all I know about MIDI devices' ability to control volume on SP.
In conclusion, probably nothing new added to your knowledge, but I'll try to search for another answers tommoro

that's coooo. yeah, i figgered i could 'bring stuff in' w/ finger pressure....i'm also looking for a way to select a pad that's awready playing, and then begin lowering the fader on it.

but if you find more stuff - i'd appreciate it. thx for the response.

I'm not sure you can do that from outside the 404.
There is no midi control of the 404 pads apart from the incoming note velocity - nothing like a midi volume fader message for a particular pad that is already playing - only the level setting you can make with the 404 edit knobs.

I think you can make a pads level control work if you hold "Remain" then the press the pad - this won't affect any playback, but will make that pad respond to the 404 level setting knob - in other words, it makes it the "current pad" for editing without it having to be the most recent pad actually played (which is how the 404 normally applies this). This was a tip someone else posted here a while back - not my invention!

Good luck!

Jim

thanks jim, yeah, that's a tip I posted actually!

the problem w/ that trick is that it gets pretty messy if you have any pads w/ FX on at the time.

but that's a good point about there not being midi info for the note volume. makes sense. thx.
