Hello everybody,

I'm about to get a 404 soon, still evaluating pros and cons. I would like to use it mainly for sampling, soundscapes, ambient, minimal rhythms and such, combined with my guitar and keyboard tunes.

Today I went to a store to play a bit with the 404, and two questions came up:

- when a sample is playing, and I decide to add an effect to it, I have to stop the sample, hit the pad again to make it the 'current pad', then switch on the desired effect in order to apply it, then start the sample again. Is that right so far? So I can't add an effect to the sample on the fly without stopping it? In other words, I have to decide beforehand, if I want an effect or not, then switch it on first, turn it totally down, start the sample, and then fade the effect in, when necessary? But: it seems to loose this assignment when switching from one pad (sample) to another. I'm really confused here..

- the second question: in the manual I've read about the possibility to resample one or more samples to another pad (page 26: 'The SP-404 lets you play back one or more samples with an effect applied, and sample the result as a new sample.'). Ok, now there's a description of the procedure to resample ONE sample to another pad, but not, how to do this with several samples at once. Couldn't find that in the pdf-manual? I remember, that in some review this possibility was denied. Am I missing something here?

That's all for the moment.

I used to own the KaossPad 3 before, but for sampling that's a rather incomplete device. Now I'm considering the SP-404 for sampling and maybe the KaossPad Mini or perhaps the KP3 again as an additional effects device, since the SP offers just one effect at a time.

Any hints and thoughts are welcome

Arndt

if a sample is playing, you can press Remain then make sure the pad you wish to assign the sample to is lit up, then the effect will work.
for example, if you have a synth note looping on Pad A1 and you want to assign a Filter to it, press and hold Remain, select A1 while Remain is held down, then hit the Filter button. now your synth sample will be Filtered. it can work like this for multiple pads.

Thank you, this helps. There seem to be a lot of 'hidden' functions, and I think, it's worth to get and learn this instrument.
So I assume it's also possible to resample more than one sample at a time?
