well in august i have to do an interview for a college and part of the interview involves me doing a piece of music live, i also have to supply a CD of 3 of my songs which is kind of ok. it's just that the live element is scaring me a little.

at the moment i am considering buying a yamaha qy-100 or a digital multitrack recorder or some kind but i have just learned from a friend that a live playing is needed for the interview so this is kind of throwing me off.

now i am thinking of getting a "cheap" guitar amp that i will bring to the interview with me. i have a friend who has one but we don't talk any more so i think im just gonna buy a cheap one. will that be ok for sound?

im wondering does anybody else use their 404 in a live setting? im not talking about having a guitar and a keyboard and 404 going but just a 404.

ive been watching panda bear from animal collective and he uses 2 303s and a mixer on stage and does whole sets with just that.

this is how ive been practising.

i have pads 1-4 filled with a bass/melody sample that loops. each pad is a variation but keeps the same tempo and the bass is the same on each pad, just slight variations on the melody.
then pads 5-12 are all filled up with drum noises and sometimes i'll have pads 11 and 12 with vocal stabs.

ive have the melody/bass samples playing so they play for 4 bars exactly and then when they just end i hit the next melody/bass sample and a kick drum to begin playing the new variation.

does anybody have any tips on how i should organise my samples or any tips in general on using the 404 in a live setting?

any help would be thoroughly appreciated.

thanks in advance.

When I play with my band, i have melodies on different pads the way you do, and i usually have at least one loop low in the mix for background noise/mood setting. If I were to play on my own I wouldn't use patterns but instead put together a drum loop, and maybe another layer or two to make the beat different in other parts of the song [like the tambourine in water curses, for example]
