I came across this when preparing for a live show. I was sampling long songs (1-3 mins long) and it would skip randomly. I just kept on sampling like lazer bears and on the 3rd or 4th time it would just work.

Good shout on the mb/s, might give that a go.

Alternatively, has anyone tried the software for transferring longer samples? In theory it should work as it seams that the problem is with writing, not reading.

I was going to try that for my next live show.

Yup, I deeed it and had no problems. Here this helped me to convert mp3s to wave.
http://media.io/

This might shed some light on the cards issues are having, also just a reminder to confirm you have the latest 404sx operating system

Host devices that comply with newer versions of the specification provide backward compatibility and accept older SD cards, but this article explains several factors that can prevent the use of a newer SD card:

A newer card may offer greater capacity than the host device can handle.
A newer card may use a file system the host device cannot navigate.
Use of an SDIO card requires the host device be designed for the input/output functions the card provides.
The organization of the card was changed starting with the SDHC family.
Some vendors produced SDSC cards above 1 GB before the SDA had standardized a method of doing so.

SDHC
Official SDHC logo

The Secure Digital High Capacity (SDHC) format, defined in Version 2.0 of the SD specification, supports cards with capacities up to 32 GB.[2] The SDHC trademark is licensed to ensure compatibility.[7]

SDHC cards are physically and electrically identical to standard-capacity SD cards (SDSC). The major compatibility issues between SDHC and SDSC cards are the redefinition of the Card-Specific Data (CSD) register in Version 2.0 (see below), and the fact that SDHC cards are shipped preformatted with the FAT32 file system.

Host devices that accept SDHC cards are required to accept SDSC cards.[1] However, host devices designed for SDSC do not recognize SDHC or SDXC memory cards, although some devices can do so through a firmware upgrade.[8] Older operating systems require patches to support SDHC. For instance, Microsoft Windows XP before SP3 requires a patch to support access to SDHC cards.[9] Windows Vista SP1 also requires a later service pack.

yeah, looks like 32gb is the threshold between SDHC and SDXC cards. Also the file systems are different.

Try defragging the card and moving backups to end of drive:

I am having issues with a micro-sd card w adapter and skiping during resampling w effects- looking into all this shit about cards- sounds like the non UHS-1 cards might actually be faster in 404SX. Still researching before I buy.

So learned some things about SD cards tonight. I was using a class 2 micro sd w adapter. I fount s simple utility that can test the card r/w performance:

http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/Sys ... estw.shtml

I have 4 or 5 cards from 1GB to 64GB. Most showed only 5MB/s write- and oddly the 64GB card in my phone which is supposed to be a class 6 was same 5MB/s. The factory Roland 1GB card same.

I found one 8GB card that was class 4 and it was approx double or more the write speed f all the other cards. It was micro-sd w adapter in my camera. I loaded my 404SX files on there and tested resampling w efects and no glitches.

Card speed rating def seems to make a difference. Just not sure what the limits of the 404SX are like if it supports the UHS-1 spec etc. which allow much faster speeds.

Right on- good idea. I have had quite a few probs when resampling and using effecs or even just resampling and adding a part. I will be getting a full size SD card to try soon. I suspect the micro SD and low speed ratings of the ones I have might be suspect.
