Hey guys --

So I need to copy my samples from one CF card to another. Both cards are 1gb cards, i've formatted the new card using the SP-404. I plug the new card into my computer and drag over the contents of the original card (and overwrite the "roland" folder to put my original contents on the new card). Then plug the card into the sampler, nothing on the banks C/D/E/F works. What did I do wrong? Any idea why this won't work? Did I miss a step?
Thanks!

I should also note -- I'm on a Mac (OS 10.9.1) and i'm doing this because I want to make a exact duplicate of my sample card for tour. (incase it gets stolen or beer gets spilled on it... you know)

Anyone have any ideas why this isn't working?

I'm confused as to why it won't work, i'm basically doing an exact transplant of the files from my CF card that works, to a new CF card, yet the new CF card doesn't recognize that there are samples on it on any of the card banks (C/D/E/F...)

If you're just trying to back up your card that is easy. Put the CF card in a USB card reader for your computer, when the drive pops up copy the entire contents to your Mac. You can rename the folder something so you know what it is, but you will need to rename it back to what ROLAND named it when you want to load it back on the 404.

Put the new CF card in your 404 before you try to transfer the backup files. The 404 should prompt you to format it. After you let the 404 format the CF card go ahead and put the backup files back onto the card.

Thanks for the message! I've already done what you suggested, the problem is that after the cf card is formatted and I copy the folder from my Mac to the card the sp404 does not recognize that there are samples on the card. None of the pads will light up when I press them.

Still looking for some help here…

Should these steps work?:

1) Drag "roland" folder from old CF card to Mac
2) Format new CF card inside SP-404
3) Connect the new CF card to mac and copy "roland" folder to new CF card
4) Unmount New CF card from Mac, put into SP-404
5) Press bank C/D/E/F.. and play samples that I just copied over

Am I correct in thinking this should work? Unfortunately, it doesn't work.

I'm not changing anything in the "roland" folder, just dragging it to the new CF card & using it on the SP-404.

Hoping someone here could help me out.
Thanks in advance!

I just tested this on my 555. Closest thing I have to an OG404. Worked fine.
I do know the 555 can be finnicky as bloody hel as to what cards it will work with. Poor guy I bought it from sent me like 2 diff cards before one worked. Tonight I used the 2GB "TopValue" or "TopRAM" card that I use with 555 and a very old SimpleTech 128MB card. 87MB worth of samples existed. Copied to my 10.6.8 Mac, formatted new card in 555, and dropped the Roland folder there off Mac desktop worked right off the bat.

Try this:
Back up your card.
Format your card in the 404
Copy the Roland folder off the Mac
See if it works.

Might simply be the 404 does not like that 2nd card you have.

Also make sure your 404 OS is up to date.
