whats up everyone.. Ive been using the mpc 2500 for about 2 years now and today my sp404 arrived. I understand the sampling, but i dont understand the chopping. I know to use the mark button but how do i fine tune??? I tried to use control1 &2 but it doesnt seem to work..
Also I would like to have the 404 as slave and the mpc as master. If theres anyone else w/ this combination what are your settings??? I cant get it to work.. when i first hooked them up together, i could hit the pads on the mpc and would hear sounds on the 404, press play and hear 404 patterns at diffrent tempos. now it doesnt even do that. did i f something up??? is there a factory reset??

heres my feb 08 Beat-tape http://www.zshare.net/download/75828724639c1c/

thanks in advance

I use the 2500 too. I used to have a 2000 classic aswell.

I hope you have JJOS, cuz that makes the whole midi controle thing way easier.

But to start with chopping:
You are right, get the sample and use the mark button for the start and end points. To fine tune, press the pad you want to fine tune to select it and then hit 'start/end/level' (located next to the quantize button) and use the 1+2 knob to fine tune.

For controlling the 404 with the mpc, get a midi cable from the mpc midi out 'A' to the sp midi in. Then turn on the mpc and press mode+pad9.

Go to sync and then select
sync out>a
mode>midiclock
send MMC>on

then go to the mainsscreen and on bottom (i think on the right side) there you should be able to enable midi for the selected track. Do that and then you can sequence the 404 with your mpc.

what MIDI channel is your MPC sending on?

if it is, say 10, then turn on your 404 while holding down Pad 10
this will set the 404 up to receive on that MIDI channel

i'm not familiar with the MPC architecture, but 1b doesn't sound like a MIDI channel
are you sure it isn't 16?

using your MPC manual, make sure that the MPC is transmitting on Channel 10. then, using the technique i described above, set up the 404 to receive on channel 10

once you get it sorted you can control all the 404's pads (over 2 MIDI channels)
