Hi Folks.

I recently acquired a Behringer FCB1010 so I can contol my SP-404 with my feet whilst i play electric bass in my band.
It took a lot of pain to sync them up but i got there eventually.
It works great.....

However.....

When i trigger the samples from the FCB1010, they play slightly quieter than if i trigger them from the SP-404 itself.

I have noticed that User_mbillings from this forum has posted in a thread (see below link) about installing a 'Uno OS chip' into the FCB1010 to 'to send the note on messages at full velocity to make sure the samples are at full volume'.

http://sp-forums.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=6217&p=55152&hilit=fcb1010#p55152

I am assuming this means that the FCB1010 is not sending the MIDI note message to the SP-404 at full velocity.
Can i program this velocity increase into the FCB1010 or is the 'Uno OS chip'?

Hi
The Uno 1010 o/s chip adds programmable note-on velocity (Global to all presets).
The Behringer o/s has Note-on Fixed at 64 and cannot be edited.

So yes, the 404 will play quieter with the stock o/s chip. Not the end of the world provided you don't also use it's pads which will play it at full volume. At least the 404 doesn't do any other velocity sensitive tricks such as sample switching, filter opening or attack sharpening.

As a matter of interest, I've been investigating much more expensive solutions such as the Roland PK-5 midi bass pedal board. The PK-5 can send true velocity, but it's alternative fixed velocity mode is also 64 only as far as I can tell from the manual.

When your brain and hands are already busy doing something else and/or the pedals are for triggering backing loops, I would think a fixed velocity would be best for the foot controller. Strictly speaking, 64 is half volume and that only needs 6dB of boost to make up to full.

Yeah, this sucks balls indeed. Lots of midi gear apparently have a max. fixed velocity of about 100 tops. Some even only 64 (which I noticed on my previous M-Audio KeyStudio 49 as well, if you're going to use some serious midi; don't buy it! ).

My Yamaha KX49 has a higher fixed velocity, but it's also only about 100 out of 127. Not maximum volume (of neither my MV or SP-404) at all.

I don't quite understand why these things aren't fully editable (it might be on the Yamaha actually, as it does support a variety of velocities).

Just get the UNO chip. It's only like 10 dollars and it fixes the velocity problem. I put one in my FCB1010 and it works perfectly.

Hey there, just got a FCB1010 as well. I've got it set up so it triggers the sample properly, but it stops playing the sample as soon as I release the button on the FCB 1010.

Anyway to make it hold the sample and continue playing?

Thanks very much!

Hey I also bought an FCB1010 and wish to trigger samples on my SP-404sx.

the SP synchronization is set to "off" so it only receives midi notes.

In the global configuration of the FCB the midi function is set to "note" (don't know what to enter in "midi channel", I can choose channels 01 to 16, but don't no what it means).

Peset 00-1 is set to sent midi note 47 (corresponding to a sample which plays entirely by one press (not gated).

When I press the switch which has the programmed preset, the sampler however does not play the sample.

Did I forget a programming step?

thanks in advance.

Problem solved. The Midi channel of the sampler was set to 3 and the foot controller's channel is set to 1 by default.
