hey the volume knob on my SP 404 is broken. When i move it there is no change in the volume and it stays very low. However, if i push the knob to the left, it clicks back into place and works fine, but only if i keep pushing it the whole time. Does anyone know how i can fix this?

if you can solder or know a cheap electronics guy, it sounds like the knob has come off the board at one of it's points.

otherwise, buying a used sp-404 might be cheaper than having Roland fix it. do you have a warranty, if you bought it used then i guess not.

yeah, i got it used unfortunately. that's what i expected happened but i wasn't sure. Is there a way to take of the top (silver faceplate) of the 404? I took off the back but it didn't seem like i could very easily get to the volume knob from there

I haven't done it, but you need to pull of the knobs for sure. I think u just unscrew it after that and pop it off. If you're worried then just find a local electronics repair shop and have them fix the volume knob, it should be pretty cheap and easy for them to do.

unbelievable. I have same prob on my 303, 'cept it's stuck on '10'.

cartesia told me what's up, but i haven't fixed it yet. when i have access to necessary tools, i will give it a shot.

i guess 'volume' and 'ctrl 3' get bashed during transport because they are the most exposed.

But honestly I'm gonna give it a go in the next week if I can.
