That sounds like a VERY complicated mod, props to him if he manages to pull that one. In oder to have the midi out working you still need to route the 404 sequencer events (software) as midi signals (analog) to the midi output; which imo sounds like serious hardware hacking + rewriting the 404 OS. If he's rewriiting the OS ask him to add pitch shift and dedicated copy functions. 8)

if ne one hacks the software for the 404 we should erect a golden statue of him in the town square.

I wouldn't mind to give it a go if I had some more info on the machine like what processor(s) it runs, the memory layout of the machine. But this info is not disclosed by roland and (understandably) won't be for another 1000 years.

My friend can't find out what's the processor running the SP... Then (if he figures it out) he would get disassembler and reverse-engineer the OS and go from there. It sounded crazy i disn't understand a word :D

Oh my god, we should really consider making a statue for your friend if he accomplishes this.

Say maybe it is better for him to register here and ask / share info with us directly ?

Your friend should implement a real pitch, to actually tune the samples. Nothing to save, but just to tune samples, like click pitch, change them, and turn pitch off, and it stays that way as long as the unit is powered. With this type of element added to the unit, it may be the only unit one would ever need 8)

Ofcourse this would be done like how JJ and the crew moded the 1000! Yeah, good stuff...
