SP-404SX MOD #2 - internal mic move- SUCCESS!

Here we go, mod #2 of the SP-404SX...

I noticed early on the mic capsule was not close to the mic grille on the top. This made me wonder how much that "cavity" the capsule sat in below the face might be affecting the sound that was recorded. I thought if the mic was much closer to the top and the grille it might make a difference and remove some of the hollow sound quality. I was =totally= not expecting the dramatic difference I would hear upon completion. After moving the mic ALL the hollow sound was gone and there was a dramatic increase in clarity. In contrast there was no more added "bass" to the recordings and the mic is way more prone to wind noise as well. I think the addition of some sort of foam or screen is in order to reduce wind noise. In the end the sound is more accurate and less colored but might not be everyone's cup of tea. Judge for yourself!

Interesting!! I think im just gonna try to add a xlr input somewhere and get a mic like the microsampler str8 on my sp ahaha
