I imagine this works a little similarly to the old trick of using a super-resonant high-pass filter...


1. Put the SBF effect on your sample

2. Change the Type to either SBF5 or SBF6. I noticed that SBF6 is a little bit more saturated and creates a small amount of extra high-end artifacts (it kind of sounds like a tambourine), but SBF5 is consistently a clean tone. One may work better than the other

3. Crank both the Interval and Width to 100.

4. I personally put the balance to 0-100% and resample so that I can layer it separately, but you can probably be just fine adjusting the balance to taste. That's an opinion of workflow.

5. If it's not already there, I set the Gain on the second settings page to +10.0dB or slightly less.


Sometimes I resample the whole thing as an additional layer to make the original sample feel stronger, and you can also resample again while adjusting the level knob or chop the resample to make some basic bass patterns.

It works great on beefing up drums, and I use it to make extra variations of long samples.
