I liked Eze's beat the most, it kinda sounded Wu-Tang Clanish to me with one of the parts that u sampled. was kinda hoping u would bring out the boom bap drum pattern towards the end lol but my fav beat nonetheless nimbostratus, unfolding machines were also dope to me. zomB, a.D. good shit! so yeah vote goes to Eze! |

Twenty eight minutes of music was contributed to this comp! It got hard listening & judging to everyone's results. Good thing everyone kept their beats different. In the end the highlights for me were Teewok's (natch- when you gonna get signed & go pro already?!), fuguefat (flowing vocal flip & use of melody) & Eze (was that in 6/4?!!?!). My vote goes with maxdemalaga because of those relentless drums & the psychedelic vibe. |

Really appreciate the mentions on my beat a lot, wish I woulda put a little more work into it,but it is what it is. I'm surprised no ones said anything about the track from a'jin yet-it gets my vote. I like the drum programming & the chops--and i really dig the melody/chops of the change up about halfway through or so.Definitely not as reppetitive as a lot of these joints, and shows a lot of creativity. My other favorites are Fueguefat,Eze, Teewok, and C. Scott. A lot of dope flips overall. Looking forward to whats up next. |

Damn, lot of great entries, but I'm feeling Unfolding Machines the most, even if he did "cheat" |

Teewok - Soft, elegant, nice drums a.D. - Good use of the individual instruments C.Scott - Your title is so right ![]() a'jin - The headphones I use at work can hardy play your deep bass zomB - Not very “electronic” this time… Nice work with the high-hat! Unfolding Machines - Very nice drums and a lovely bass… from your Korg ESX1… ![]() Lodger - Gets my vote. Somewhat angry beat. Mean. Fuguefat - Like the strings. Nimbostratus - After awhile it gets hypnotic with the humming strings Eze - 6/4 (as Unfolding Machines noticed). Nice oboe chops to the 6/4-beat. xdemalaga - Like going though a tunnel of sound. The pause at 0:59 is so cool! |

The Head Noders: C.Scott - Nice drums and rolls. Zomb - Love the hi hat work. The Low End Theory: Unfolding Machine - Love the slow grinding bassline. The Chop Shop: Ajin - "too high!" too right. Love that drop. a.D. - I'm feeling all the little change ups and variations. It felt like every bar was different. Dope. Future Beats: Gis_Sweden - Interesting groove on this one. Couldn't get my head around it. Next level stuff here. Xdemalaga - Sounds like a beat soup. Tastes aight. Nimbostratus - Melo groove. Good filter work. All Star Team (my favs): Fuguegat - First off love the name. I'm just learning how to use fuguegat to copy patterns - absolutely essential. Nice clean chops. Good composition/structure and mutes and delays - nice lazy groove Lodger - That bass chop carries the track. So simple but so effective. Good sample stabs. Nice crunchy drums too. Teework... Does it again. Your sample work was crazy. This was the one track that stuck in my head. Memorable. My vote goes to you bro. I guess I used 6/4 on my beat without thinking about it (6 beats in one bar) |

First off let me say great job guys- lots of really interesting flips here. Also, I found it really helpful when people gave out commentary on individual beats; constructive criticism is how people get better. Teewok- As always your sample work is brilliant, man. This track is very well conceived and as thus gets my vote. A.D.- Great sample work here as well. The only suggestions I'd possibly give would be to layer a bit of filter bass from the musical part of the sample to fatten up the low end. Also, variety can be good good, but it needs to be balanced with familiarity of theme to be something that people can recall. C.Scott-mp3 would be the preferred format here..wav took forever to dl. I like your drums and your mutes and filtering were very interesting. My only issues were that the song structure doesn't do your ideas justice. A'Jin- I appreciate what you were doing with the vocal "smooth to soar" transition. The main problem with this beat seems to be the drums...you might want to time stretch them, resample, and then chop. Otherwise it sounds like the beat is falling down stairs. Zomb- As always I enjoy listening to your beats. This is one of those beats that shows that simplicity is not necessarily a bad thing. The highlight for me was the part when the triplet hats come in. Very effective. This beat wasn't the most memorable, but is a mature and thought out composition. Unfolding Machines- Cheater! haha. Its all good- these aren't the Olympics and no urine tests will be given (I'm not sure how many cats here would pass one anyway.) I really like the flute sample and the drums. I however didn't quite think the bassline change about 1/4 of the way in really fit the composition well; the rhythm seemed to buck the direction of where the track wanted to go. Gis Sweden- This is sort of the hiphop version of minimal techno. Interesting use of the ring mod. the individual ring mod hits would sound really interesting with reverb resampled. As far as criticism, after a few listens i'm still trying to figure out what a boing machine does. This would benefit from more tonal content and a bit of dynamic structure or sections, etc. Fuguefat- Nice selection of chops...best when the main vocal bit sets in. a bit more variety in percussion other than just the kick and snare would have set this off and added to this feeling like a full beat. Nimbo Stratus- The timing of the drums was interesting here. I like the glitchy crackles, etc. but think that the filter may be best applied to individual elements rather than the full mix (full track filtering can be a cool trick if its used the right way, such as working toward a build-up). I would have liked to see a bit more tonal content. Eze- Interesting concept, as others have said, with the odd timed beats. At first I wasn't sure what to make of it, but its gotten better with listens. I also like the effects you designed (i.e. the delay rolls, etc.) which others would be wise to pick up on. The only thing i could have suggested was having some variety in the velocity on your kicks and snares...that would have added a bit more dynamic interest to your percussion. Xdemalaga- This one has a lot of potential, but to me seems incomplete. Layer some big punchy drums over this and a few non-muffled bits of string or flute and you'd have a gem. |

Thanks for the feed-- actually there is a filtered bassline in my beat. Not mad loud, for sure, but it's in there and noticeable. As far as my chops-- not that i take offense, but I'm pretty sure all the transitions in this shit are seamless. Theme is pretty simple on this- intro, hook, main sequence, change up,main, change, and a 1 bar lead in to the last hook. Trust me, I'm experienced enough to know how to structure songs ![]() |

After lots of listening to everyone's tracks I voted for fuguefat. I have a classical music bkground and just found the orchestration on this track very appealing! This was my 1st battle, I even got one vote and lots of constructive feedback; a great experience, thanks everyone! |

damn that's alot of entries. teewok killed it again. unfolding machines, your backwards stuff under the crazy bass sounded all warped, cool vibe. Gis_sweden I knew yours was going to be weird but a surprise, trippy effects. Interesting from everybody. a'jin your subsonic made my head explode but it's in a nice frequency and matches the chops pretty well at times. eh what the hell i have to vote for teewok again ![]() |
