I basically just want to quickly check what people think of the rules. This is SP Battle related only. The Open Challenges will always be free-form and rules will be decided by the Winner, no limitations.  I'm open to all kinds of suggestions, so please use this topic to discuss the Rules. |

The original battle rule was only use your sp and the samples given. By only using this method, myself, and I am sure others, gained valuable experience and knowledge on how to really get creative using the sp and really get under the surface with it. The battle really wasn't about how nice the beat was, but more how much you learned while making it. I like the idea of the open challenge, and in there you can make different rules because it is a different set-up. I personally think the battle rule should stay the way it was. Minus the community, which is SFA, the battles were what motivated me into really getting deep down with my sp. It made me use every last penny I spent on it. Even just listening to what others came up with by tweaking the one sample with their box had me going "damn! with just that sample? I gotta learn this machine." I am not saying that you can't get very creative by using some of the other rules mentioned, but I believe the battle rule should stay the same as always. It is more challenging, but much more rewarding in the end. Everything else should go in the "Your Music" section. Music is Love |

personally i think there should be some rules decided by the last winner. like outside drums. pitch/time stretch. obviously the winner supplies the samples so it should be no question which samples/sounds you have to use. laser beams and explosions and other samples that are not in the sounds given shouldnt be used. but i think if the winner wants he can add as many samples as he wants like some laser beams! LASER BEAMS! the reason i mention outside drums/pitch and time stretch is because everyone can do it/has drums. whether they have to use a computer to time stretch i really dont care. because you still have to use the sp to make the beat regardless. and the way i see it if you win you can decide whether you have to use a break for the drums or outside drums or pitch and time shift allowed. those are not some completly unheard of tools that you can only do if you have the beathang or some stupid shit. the battles are way more diverse and all around that much better...look at the last two battles they were crazy! next to all the laser beams! LASER BEAMS! |

man, there should be one set of rules and none made by the winner. if these are forum battles and not open challenges, then it should be forum rules. not being able to pitch is pretty feirce. if your machine doesnt do something that other machines do, then your limits are your machine and not the rules. i just wasnt really feeling battle 57's no pitching samples rule. pitching is the shit. i know its cool to make things harder and make people work within the limitations, but the rules of having 2 samples, and only using those is a pretty good limitation. lets say some winner presents some really bad rules, no one may join the battle. and that would suck. |

go back to OG where only SP's can be used and OPEN where the winner sets the rules it was fine having both. |

Yes, we're supposed to have both. To some extent it doesn't make sense to change the old SP battle rules at all. So uhm, lets not do that. It worked relatively good with last battles I'll admit, but I myself agree that we should stick with the old rules. The Open Challenges is were everything is allowed or where the winner decides. |

sorry guys, but sp-battles are sp-battles... Respect for the winner of the battle but in my opinion it's all one can get. Winners shouldnt be allowed to change the rules. let's keep it all inside the sp. I dont care which one, 606 or 202. Ima beat even software cheaters with my 404. This is all about doing the beat with sp-limitations. Not everyone can do that. peace guys, sorry for my absence, but it was caused partly by my job and partly by the fact that outside samples were allowed in previous battle(s) if im correct. yeah, #2 peace |

^^^^^yeah I think if it can be done in your sp then it should be allowed. regaurdless of the model you choose to use. they all have strengths and short-comings but that's how all gear is. if cats are that worried about pitch then just rock one of the effects that pitches. and yeah the 202 is a dope ass machine but I don't generally read: "ok here's my submission it's 100% 202" not an ounce of hate to the 202 dudes but I don't think we should limit the use of some features on other models just because the 202 doesn't have them. |

I agree with ormo, keep it all sp no matter which model you use. If you have a 202 and don't win but make a sick beat you'll still get mad love for the skill that takes. Open challenges are for all the laser beams, vocal snippets, external pitching etc. |

exactly. like the 202 has "real" pitch, the one thing everybody seems to want but we are supposedly not allowed to use the time stretch feature that is on every other model that lacks an actual pitch function..???? if I had to make the rules it would be all sps and all functions of all sps. anything you can do with any type of sp is fair game. if you have more than one model (I don't) it shouldn't matter if you use them both. as long as all the work is done within the confines of Roland/boss sp model samplers then it's fine ^^^fäñtåśÿ rûłęš^^^ |

i agree with ormo. if its all sp it should be anything your sp can do. time stretch is not needed to win a battle. its like saying i cant use my sequencer cause someone in the battle only has a 202. |

Personally I'm good with people using all the features that are on their SP. I think timestretch is perhaps indeed a bit overrated when it comes to battles and the increased/decreased chance of winning. The poll already seems to show that for the most part people don't consider it to be very important. |
