i'm gonna change the rules without changing any of the rules, if that makes any sense... this time round we'll be using only the mic. you can use your built-in mic or a real one, or a pair of headphones if you don't have a mic and/or you wanna get old-school about it. but if you own some fancy RE20 or something please grab an SM57 instead. i think that keeping the spectrum of sound quality among our entries as narrow as possible will prevent any debate about what mic who's using or whatever. you may sample anything at all AS LONG AS whatever you sample was obviously never designed to be used musically. so for example, sampling the 'ding' from your microwave timer is ok, but sampling the 'ding' from a triangle is not ok. each entry should come with a list of all the objects used. so, if there are no objec-tions (no pun intended).... Lady and Gentlemen, Start your SPs! |

While I like the idea, I don't think this would really easily work in a battle. I would love to see someone use a car horn, engine sound, microwave beep and the sound of breaking glass in a beat though. Do you guys know that Discovery ad where animals make sounds which is also arranged in a song like structure? That's a really cool way to make music. But.... would sampling from movies or TV count? |

Aight I got it... Is it ok to sample a street musician or a beatbox?! Guess not... everything that's non-musical, huh?! Should be great fun... ![]() How about pitching and all that shit we talked about? ![]() Could we have 2 weekends for this joy?! Uni is pretty tuff right now... Are bottles ok, or are they already percussion instruments?! Same goes for finger snaps?! Bass with my mouth? Sorry but I guess other folks wonder too... |

well, i would say that any use of the hands is fine, but probably no singing... but using your breath could work, you could blow over the top of a large bottle to get a bass sound. hitting glasses and bottles or whatever works, because those things aren't designed to be musical. so as for samples to start with, there are none... i don't know about radio or tv... the idea is to get completely organic. there are a few everyday household objects i can think of right now that can hold a frequency and were never meant to be musical. and of course you can use pitch shift to create your own melodies with them. i don't know how to set up a poll yet but if there are any doubts about this idea maybe we should vote first. personally, what's left of my brain is excited about it. ![]() |

if we are using mics there cant be that many restrictions... if theres mic action im going to sample myself "singing" and tune it down for bass, that shouldnt be out of order if people can sample anything else also sampling beat box sounds |

Nada nix hier, no voting poll... the idea is cool man, let's do that shit! I'm coming straight from the woods with some dry leaves and real woodblocks... I also would agree on "singing"... |

Cool, I'm very much looking forward to hearing these beats. ( I just hope every SP user will be able to sample with a mic. SP 555 and SP 505, SP 606 aren't portable units, but there's a bunch of way to get around that, for example the usage of a field recorder and then record it into the SP through a mic? ) |
